Diesel engines, on the contrary to gasoline-engines which are discrete vehicles that cause fuel particles thru spark-ignition in a variety cylinder. This compression ignites the air- fuel mix which was directly injected into the cylinder. Compressing it generates heat and then the fuel ignites, creating power. A 4 cylinder diesel engine as the name suggests has four cylinders that work together to facilitate power. Each cylinder goes throught 4-stroke cycle i. e Intake, Compression, Power and Exhaust. Each cylinder's spent gases exit via an exhaust manifold that feeds a turbocharger or two to help make the engine more powerful.
